The NJ State Library (NJSL) envisions a future where all New Jerseyans can access outstanding library services and the information they need to reach their goals.
NJSL, an affiliate of Thomas Edison State University (TESU), is led by State Librarian Jennifer R. Nelson and provides services for New Jersey libraries, the state legislature and government employees, along with TESU staff and students, and registered borrowers.
Libraries are vital community hubs, offering knowledge and lifelong learning through their collections, services, and partnerships. Our goal is to strengthen this foundation, empowering libraries to enhance New Jersey’s well-being and regional resilience.

Build the capacity of all libraries in the state, through NJSL Initiatives
Our Library Development coordinates programs to help increase capacity to serve their local communities. They facilitate the administration of state and federal grants, and provide statewide services such as: continuing education and training for library directors, staff and trustees, interpretation of library law and legislation, interlibrary loan, statewide online electronic resources, statistics and surveys, and the development of statewide programs, pilot projects and special initiatives that support key areas of continuing need.
New Jersey Talking Book and Braille Center (TBBC)
TBBC serves state residents of all ages (children, teens and adults) who cannot read standard print or who cannot hold a book or turn the pages of a book because of a physical impairment, reading disability, or a visual impairment.

About the NJ State Library: 200 Years of Service to State Government
From the New Jersey State House Tours website: State House Annex – Constructed from 1929 to 1931, the State House Annex features Beaux Arts architecture. Reflecting the onset of the Great Depression, interior finishes were rich-looking, but inexpensive treatments. Originally built to house the State Museum, State Library, and State Judiciary, it is outfitted with five sets of sculpted bronze doors symbolizing the original use of each area in the building. Today it contains public hearing rooms and legislative offices.
