About Web-Braille

To register for Web-Braille, contact the New Jersey State Library Talking Book & Braille Center at 1-800-792-8322 or njlbh@njstatelib.org

Web-Braille is a type of Braille book produced by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. Web-Braille includes files for books produced since the early 1990s, files for all NLS-produced Braille magazines, files for NLS-produced music scores and books about music, as well as files for Braille books produced through libraries in the NLS network of cooperating libraries. Print/Braille, foreign language, and grade 1 Braille books are not included. NLS will continue to add new books to Web-Braille as they are approved for shipment.

Web-Braille is accessed through the NLS catalog, www.loc.gov/nls, once a password has been obtained from TBBC. Web-Braille books can be searched in the NLS online catalog. A link to each volume of a Web-Braille title will appear in the search results. When a Web-Braille link is selected, you will be prompted for your Web-Braille username and password (first obtained from TBBC). Web-Braille book files are in grade 2 Braille ASCII format.

Web-Braille files may be read online or may be downloaded for offline viewing or embossing with a Braille display, Braille-aware notetaker, or Braille embosser.
