Outspoken Library

Welcome to the Outspoken Library! The purpose of the Outspoken Library is to bring all of the services offered by The New Jersey State Library Talking Book & Braille Center (TBBC) to ONE portal on a computer to enhance the visibility of TBBC's services. TBBC has installed forty-two Outspoken Library computer kiosks across New Jersey; thirty-seven of these are at public libraries. The presence of the Outspoken Library in New Jersey public libraries assists TBBC in reaching the caregivers, neighbors, friends and loved ones of those who need our services.

Each Outspoken Library kiosk has live links to services administered through TBBC such as TBBC’s very own Audiovision Newspaper Reading Service and the National Federation for the Blind’s Newsline with over 300 newspapers, magazines and wire services.  Access to the Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) site is also available. BARD currently provides over 25,000 digital books as well as current and past issues of 42 magazines for download which can be played on a TBBC issued digital talking book player.  Video demonstrations and instructions on how to do a BARD download are also found on each Outspoken Library kiosk.

The New Jersey State Library has partnered with 37 public libraries across New Jersey.  The State Library has also partnered with New Jersey’s Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired; New Jersey’s Department of Veteran Affairs and the United States Veterans’ Administration to place the Outspoken Library in selected sites.
